I might have taken too much liberty for what goes on in Christmas in Sinnoh oops.

“Hey Dia, why the glum face?”

“Hey Pearl… It’s just…” Dia sighed. “I wanna ask Missy out for Christmas but-”

“Say no more! I’ll make sure you two get the perfect Christmas date!”

“But-”

“No buts! Don’t you dare chicken out on me!” Pearl gave Dia a slap on the back.

Dia sighed. “It’s not that… It’s just… I have so many ideas I don’t know which one Missy would like!”

“Then let’s hear them already!” Pearl never learns, does he?

Dia listed down his plans from A to Z, from a home-cooked dinner to ice-skating on Lake Verity, confident that one of them would be the one. Yet, Pearl seemed the least impressed.

“Dia… Look… Missy’s a lady… She’s used to having the best of the best! You need something more… glitzy! More… glamorous! You need to impress her!”

“Are you sure?”

Pearl gave Dia ‘the look’.

“Fine… What’s the plan?”

***

How did he get himself into this mess…

“Dia! You can’t go in that!”

“Why not?”

“Well, Missy’s gonna dress up and… Don’t you “Why not?” me! It’s a date with Missy for Arceus’ sake! Thank Arceus I called Blue over!”

“Oh Dia! Trust me! Girls love it when guys take the extra effort to dress up!” said Blue as she adjusted his cravat.

“There! Now you look the part! The prince to the Berlitz Princess!” Blue dragged Dia over to a mirror.

Dia stared at his reflection. Slick back hair. A suit and cravat. Was his usual really not good enough for a date with Missy?

“Stop spacing out Dia! You’re gonna be late!” Pearl gave Dia a slap. “Here! Don’t forget your gift!”

“Thanks Pearl! And thank you too, Blue!”

***

Dia stood outside the Berlitz estate, hesitant to press the bell. Suddenly, the intercom spoke.
“What business might you have with the Berlitz family?”

“Mr Sebastian is that you? It’s me! Dia!”

“Dia? My apologies, I didn’t recognize you for a moment. Come in and have a seat, Missy will be down in a short while.”

***

“Sorry to keep you waiting, Di-” It would be a lie if Platina said she wasn’t surprised to see Dia like this.

“Ah Missy! Y-you look really pretty!” Dia couldn’t help but blush.

“Just like a princess”, just like the first time they met.

“Thank you! I was looking forward to this the whole week! Shall we?”

***

The first stop was Sushi High Roller. The Kalos-based restaurant recently opened a store in Floaroma town. The windows of the restaurant stretched from the floor to the ceiling, allowing customers to enjoy a full view of the flower fields while savoring their meals.

As the appetizer was being served, Platina eyed the food carefully.

“Oh! I remember now! I’ve eaten here before!”

“You have?”

“In Kalos though. We went there for a family holiday and the chef prepared the dishes before us! It was quite the experience! The food was exquisite!”

Of course the Berlitz family would’ve eaten all kinds of world-class cuisine…

“After dinner, we went to Anistar City. There was a large crystal which functioned as a sundial. It was so pretty when it lit up and the rings would start turning! And…”

Sounds like the next stop would have some tough competition…

“Oh dear… I seemed to have rambled on! Sorry Dia… Did I… bore you?”

“No not at all, Missy’s stories are really interesting!” Dia smiled, trying to assure Missy. He really did like hearing about Missy and her experiences.

Platina gives Dia one more look before she starts eating. Did he make a weird face or something?

***

Initially, Dia was confident that the second stop would wow Missy since Blue assured him so, but given the Berlitz family, would it be too commonplace for them?

Dia gave himself a wake-up slap. “Pearl and Blue planned this carefully! It’ll be alright!”

“Is something troubling you, Dia?”

“No, I’m ok. Don’t worry ‘bout it. We’re almost there!”

***

Sunyshore City. Known for its solar-powered lights. Even more so, for its Christmas Illuminations and decorations. But that of course meant that crowds would flock in from different regions just to see the lights.

“Sunyshore’s world-class! Trust me! Plus, Missy probably spends her holidays with her family overseas so I’m sure she’s never seen this before!”

Platina stopped for a moment to take in the sights.

“Missy!” The crowd kept on pushing forward. Dia tried to get back to her but he was swept away.
Once he reached the end of the illuminations, he sent out his Lickilicky.

“Tung, let’s find Missy from above!”

Lickilicky wrapped its tongue onto one of the lampposts and sprang up with Dia. It began to swing from lamppost to lamppost. Not here… Not there either…

They were nearly back to the entrance when Tung nudged Dia. Platina was still at the same spot, albeit looking around frantically.

“Great job Tung!” Dia landed at an empty area away from the entrance and returned Lickilicky.

“Missy!” Dia called out while running.

“Dia! I was so worried… I looked up for a moment and you disappeared…”

“I’m sorry ‘bout that… M-Missy, shall we… hold hands? So that we don’t get separated?” Dia offered Platina his hand.

Platina beamed and took Dia’s hand.

The area was framed with lampposts decorated as candy canes. Hanging from the trees were fairy lights shaped into various Pokemon such as Swirlix, Slurpuff, Cryogonal and Delibird in a sleigh pulled by Stantlers.

“Missy, look at that! The lighthouse!”

“Wow! It’s so beautiful!”

The lighthouse was wrapped with fairy lights, turning it into a giant Christmas tree. On the top of it was a Jirachi shaped by the lights. Seeing how Missy’s face lit up, Dia couldn’t help but smile as well.

***

“Missy, before we head back, I have something for you!” Dia hands Missy a small box.

“Oh? You shouldn’t have!”

“Please open it!”

Platina opened the small box. It was necklace with a blue and pink cherry blossom.

“I wasn’t sure what to get but Pearl said that girls love accessories so…” Dia glanced at Platina from the side. “I know Missy probably has a lot of them, so to make it special, Don and I searched for the materials ourselves! It’s not much, but I hope you like it!” Dia was speaking faster than his usual.

“Oh Dia, I’d be happy to receive anything from you! It’s really lovely! Thank you so much!” Platina took the necklace out of the box and gazed at it. “Could you help me put it on?”

“O-of course!”

As Dia secured the necklace, Platina spoke: “Dia, thank you so much for today! I really enjoyed myself!”

“Me too! At first, I was worried that you wouldn’t enjoy yourself since...”

“Dia! Where did you get the impression that… I have never ‘not enjoyed’ the time spent with you!”

Ah…How could Dia forget his own words…

“The ‘time’ that me, Pearl and Missy spent… and the ‘space’ that we travelled all over… those are the most important ‘time’ and ‘space’ to me.”

There was never a need to impress Missy. Just spending time together… That, was the perfect Christmas.

Epilogue:

“Dia, this is for you. Please open it!” Platina handed Dia her gift.

Inside the box was a diamond badge.

“This diamond was mined from-”

“M-Missy, wait! I can’t accept this…”

“Why not?” Platina was surprised. While she knew Dia wasn’t the type to wear fancy accessories, she wanted to give him something special. A diamond for Dia. And it suited him, especially in his current look.

“I appreciate the thought but…”

“But…?” Platina tilted her head, curious to hear Dia’s reasoning.

“It’s…just…” Dia seemed to be having some trouble expressing himself.

“...‘Too expensive’?” Platina quoted what Sebastian told her.

“Ah!”

“Grandpa did say you might not be keen to accept such a gift… But I wanted to give you something precious to me…”

“Oh… then in that case, I really can’t accept it… because it’s precious to you right? So please keep it! Just spending time with Missy is the perfect gift for me!”

Dia never fails to surprise Platina, in ways she never expected. She couldn’t be any happier to hear that Dia too, enjoyed being together with her.

“Then, please have this.” Platina handed Dia a small paper bag sealed with a diamond-shaped sticker.

Dia opened the bag to see… his favorite… chocolate cookies! Though any food would be considered his favorite.

“Grandpa suggested that you might like this better… but…” Platina stared at the ground, nervous to see Dia’s reaction.

Too late. Dia took a bite.

“Ah! Wait!” Platina tried to stop Dia. “I understand if you’d like to spit it out…”

*munch munch munch* “It’s good! A bit salty but it’s ok!" Dia gave Platina a thumbs-up. "I'm really happy to receive homemade cookies from Missy!”

“Dia, please don’t lie to me…”

“No really! Have you tried them?”

“…No.” Platina looked away. She forgot to give them a taste test in the midst of rushing to dress up. She knew she mixed up salt with sugar, but by the time she realized, there wasn’t enough time to make another batch.

She took a piece and gave it a try. Not too bad, given that that’s her first try.

“Hmm, the recipe calls for 200 grams… That seems a bit too much… Let’s try… 10 grams… Grandpa always says not to eat too many sweets…”

Fortunately, it seemed like that worked in her favor. Though if she didn’t mix them up… Platina had the urge to hit herself…

“Um, Dia… Could you… teach me how to cook if you have the time?” Platina was somewhat worried that Dia would laugh at her for needing assistance with cooking, something Grandpa did so easily on a daily basis, but she trusted Dia enough to even ask.

“Sure!” Dia answered excitedly. “I’d be happy to!”

This was a wonderful fic to read, anonymous author! I love Dia/Platina and this is a wonderful fic showing their personalities quite well <33 Very sweet and perfect for the holidays! (And I like your interpretation of the holidays in Sinnoh!)

I really liked how you show both Dia and Platina's preparations for this date! Platina's gifts made me laugh - very reminiscent of her 1 million dollar penalty with Pearl and of course Sebastian would set her straight! And the cooking - poor Platina, mixing up salt and sugar (which I can imagine her doing)! :) And Dia's gift was sweet, especially since he searched for it with Don <33

I especially like that you involved Pearl and Blue (the girl) because of course they'd meddle one way or another! (The fashion talk made me especially laugh.) And I'm pretty happy you worked in the customary Pearl slap and of course, Dia's Pokemon! (We must be reading the same translation, since Dia's nicknames for his are the same I've been reading in mine.) I really like how you brought them in the story! (I like your use of Tung especially <3)

I was pretty much melting in feels by the end (their date was so cute, especially the part where Platinum rambles on but Dia doesn't mind and their handholding), but the epilogue added so much more of them <33 Because Dia teaching Platinum something he enjoys doing is the perfect way to end this story. <3333

Thank you so much for writing this for me, I really, really loved it! :)
