Dawn looked out of the window of the fourth floor of Veilstone’s Department store. While it had only been a few days since she had become Champion her duties had already began piling up. She was already scheduled to participate in the tournament between Champions though that was still quite a few years off.
Sighing wistfully, the young trainer pulled out a special ball. This one wasn’t like the common ones such as Timer or Net Balls that could be found in stores. This one was specially made in order to celebrate the capturing of the Pokemon held within. With a smile, Dawn sat back in reflection.
The events leading up to the capture itself had been rather unexpected. She’d received a letter inviting her to the old Harbor Inn located in Canalave City. Naturally, Dawn had arrived at the city in order to see what was going on. Being invited to a shutdown hotel with nothing but a card was suspicious after all. Especially when the last date marked was a good fifty years prior. As an important figured, she’d let the rest of the Elite Four know of her plans.
She didn’t remember what had happened after she’d entered the hotel but the next memory she had was of her standing on the harbor of Newmoon Island. Stranger still, a voice had guided her to the center of the island where she saw it.
It of course was Darkrai. She’d only seen rough drawings and paintings of it but this was unmistakably him. The dark body that seemed as if it were made up of smoke. A red rigged color around what would be its neck had it been human. A single blue eye peering out from underneath billowing white hair.
Without hesitation, Darkrai moved in on the newly inducted Champion. Quickly doubling back, Dawn tossed out a Great Ball. With a burst of light her Luxray pounced onto the scene.

It had been a few days since Dawn’s break and now she sat across from her predecessor, Cynthia. Darkrai had yet to listen to since she caught him a week beforehand so Dawn had called the older trainer in for her help.
Honestly Dawn didn’t quite know what to do. The pair had been planning and chatting all day and they still hadn’t come up with an explanation for why Darkrai was misbehaving. Cynthia had suggested that Darkrai felt that he wasn’t being treated fairly but Dawn had been quick to shoot that idea down.
“I treat him just the same as all my other Pokemon and Dialga doesn’t even give me these issues. You said that might be because Dialga feels indebted to me for saving them from Team Galactic but if that’s the case I brought Darkrai out of isolation so shouldn’t that apply to them as well?”
The older trainer couldn’t argue with that so the pair had gone back to the drawing board. Papers littered Dawn’s table, Cynthia’s coat tossed over the back of a chair. Surely the pair would figure out a way to tame the legendary eventually, right?

Years passed and now Dawn found herself at Spear Pillar once more. What had started out as a day like any other had changed in the middle of a conversation.
She had just arrived back in the Sinnoh region after flying out to Unova to make an appearance at the Pokemon World Tournament. After quite a number of battles and festivities she was just glad to be back home.
She’d been in Hearthome preparing to watch a Super Contest when a younger girl of maybe two or three years had introduced herself. The girl’s name was Serena and it turned out that Dawn was one of her role models. The two had fallen into conversation when Flint had arrived to deliver news of Cyrus’s return. That had been hours ago.
Now the pair stood atop Spear Pillar. However the two were not alone for before them stood an old enemy. Cyrus stood before them, another red chain in hand. A wicked smile came to his face as he turned in their direction.
“I told you I would one day return. You may have prevented me from obtaining Dialga but this time I will not fail. Watch as I bring forth the ultimate to finish what I began all those years ago.”
The ground beneath Dawn and Serena’s feet shook as the sky darkened. Winds blew as Cyrus held out the red chain above us head. The sky itself soon darkened as the floor cracked and another Pokemon rose forth from the ether.
“Behold! The ultimate had answered my call. This time I shall not fail! You may have put a stop to Dialga but this is one that you cannot put a stop to.”
-
A sleepover. That had been Serena’s suggestion after they’d teamed up to take down Cyrus once more. The younger trainer had insisted that that was the best way to relax and so here the two were in a hotel room in Sunnyshore.
The sleepover itself had only just gotten started, both of them in a pair of pink pajamas though Serena’s appeared to be a lighter shade. The younger girl sat behind Dawn chatting away as she pulled her hair into a ponytail.
“Shauna didn’t want to return the flute to him but of course we knew that we had to or else we -”
“I’m sorry, Shauna?”
“My friend? I could have sworn I mentioned her though I guess with the battle we had earlier it’s kind of hard to remember. Should I start over?”
“No, you’re fine.”
Serena gave her a nod before launching full speed into another story. Dawn for the most part set back and listened to her talk. It was good to have met a new friend, even if she was younger. After a few minutes, Dawn swapped spots, pulling Serena into an embrace of her own. They had a long night ahead of them but even still, Dawn could see that this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
